SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA FROM THE AIR

The municipal museum of San Javier is currently hosting a photographic exhibition showing the development of the area since 1929. The exhibition, entitled “Santiago de la Ribera: Naval Base to the General Air Academy, 1929-1980” includes a selection of images taken from the air along with others from the city archives, “the family album of San Javier” and contributions from D. Miguel Ferrer and D. Antonio Barnuevo.

The exhibition was opened by the mayor of San Javier, Juan Martínez, who was accompanied by Academy Commanding officer, Colonel AGA, Emilio Gracia and numerous guests. It has been organised to mark the 125th Anniversary of Santiago de la Ribera and through 176 snapshots, the evolution of the local population as well as the military base, the infrastructure, landscapes and social development can readily be seen.

Many of the photographs have been provided from the archives of the General Air Academy and are dated as early as 1929. They are part of a set of photos that provide great historical value and that, in recent years, have been digitized through the Municipal Archives of the Department of Heritage in San Javier.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 09:30 to 13:30 hrs and from 16:00 to 18:30 hrs. On Sunday the opening hours are 10:30 h to 13:30 hrs.
