The Ministry of Interior and Justice of the Valencia region has filed 79 applications across the Alicante province for the holding of special New Year´s Eve parties, although this figure may well change as last minute applications are considered.

The Director General of Security and Civil Protection for the province, Sonia Vega, said that as part of the schedule for entertainment, venues may apply to extended their opening hours by 90 minutes during the night of New Year´s Eve, although compliance has to be in line with the legal requirements of the venues and their licences, in order to ensures a proper balance between the right to rest and to that of leisure and entertainment.

A statement says that the regulation is “a priority to ensure the safety and welfare of the users of public facilities and strict enforcement of existing legislation is intended to ensure all premises comply with the rules, because at no time should citizens be put at risk”.

The information also reminds venue owners that it became mandatory on the 1st of January, 2011, that all nightclubs, dance halls, discos, pubs and karaoke venues with a capacity for more than 200 people must have that capacity certified and must exercise admission control.
