RUSSIANS COME IN FROM THE COLD

Such is the Costa’s Russian influx the Murcia town of Garrucha has been re-christened Garussia. In Torrevieja Oblast Russians welcome New Year at the city’s vibrant Flamenco Restaurant.

The annual Asociacion Union Eslava event lived up to its name. With about forty partygoers wining, dining and dancing there appeared at times to be more Ukrainians than Russians with a sprinkling of Kazakhstan residents too.

Organiser Marina Saranina says there are so many Russians arriving she expects numbers attending to treble each year. A growing Eurasian Customs Union could boost Costa economies.

The Russian led equivalent to the EU is six times bigger than the European Union and almost the size of the British Empire at its zenith. Soaked in mineral wealth Kazakhstan capital Astana is more stunning than Dubai.

Ukraine is second only to Western Russia in size.
