FIRST THREE PROVINCIAL BIRTHS OF 2014 ARE GIRLS

The first baby of 2014 born in the region of Valencia is a girl who arrived at 01:26 at Torrevieja hospital.

According to informed sources in the Ministry of Health, the newborn baby weighed in at 3.3 kilos, has a Spanish mother and will be named Mara. This marks the first birth recorded in both the region of Valencia and the province of Alicante.

Just moments later, at 1:30, the first birth in the province of Valencia occurred, in which a Spanish woman gave birth to a girl in the Hospital La Fe a girl, who also weighed 3.3 kilos and is called Sara.

The province of Castellón was considerably further behind, having to wait until 09:11 for their first birth, also a girl, weighing in at 3.6 kilos, given the name Marta.

In 2013, until November, there had been a total of 30,271 births recorded throughout the Region, of which 14,084 were in the province of Valencia, 12,387 in Alicante and 3,820 were in the Castellón province

This data reflects a decrease of 6.06% in the number of births in public hospitals since 2012, when 32,223 children born, of which 15,146 were in the province of Valencia, 13,080 in Alicante and 3,997 in Castellón.
