The Spanish National Squad officers, under the management of John Muldoon, Director of Bowls, held a trial for aspiring squad members at Vista Bella Bowls Club.
Derek Toozer National Coach, Jackie Breslin and Mick Johnson Player Coaches, and Pat Metcalfe, the Administrator, assessed the potential of the trialists, who were Julie Cooper of Mazarron, Jason Prokopowycz, Derek Sale and Lisa Bonsor of Quesada, Hazel Brown of El Cid, Christine Manson of Benitachel, Darren Johnson of San Luis, Karen Maria Kirk and Carole Donnellan of Country Bowls and Drew Gerrard of San Miguel.
Recent selections have been made for the team to play in the Dutch Open in May. They are Lynne Greenland, Julie Cooper, Brian Robertson Snr and Steve Pearson. The squad to represent Spain in the Four Nations Competition in Cyprus in April will be Jan Dando, Sheri Fletcher, Yvonne Briden, Debbie Colquhoun, Lisa and Peter Bonsor, Steve Pearson, Steve Cantley, Jackie Breslin and Graham Cathcart.
Scotland’s Commonwealth Games squad will be playing at Quesada on the 26th and 27th of April against a team yet to be selected.
