TENERIFE COURT OVERRULES CENSURE MOTION

Álvaro Dávila of the Nationalist Coalición Canaria political group

A court of administrative litigation at Santa Cruz de Tenerife has overturned a censure motion that had been approved in the town of Tacoronte, on account of the PSOE councillors being considered as “turncoats”.

In a case that bears some similarities to the ongoing situation in Orihuela, the courts have returned the ousted mayor, Álvaro Dávila of the Nationalist Coalición Canaria political group, to his post as head of the council.

Unlike the situation in Orihuela, the motion was approved in October of last year, but the fact that a number of councillors had been “expelled” from the political group has led to the permanent reinstatement of the Mayor.

Dávila said that he “welcomes the decision”, and will continue to govern in a minority government.
