VIOLENT ROBBERY GANG ARRESTED

Thanks to the combined efforts by officers from the Guardia Civil and National Police, a gang of criminals thought to be responsible for at least 26 robberies have been brought to justice.

A total of twelve people have been arrested, spread through areas such as Orihuela, Elche, Catral, Cox, La Aljorra and Granja de Rocamora, all believed to have been involved in the crimes across the Alicante province and into northern Murcia.

A total of six homes were searched during the arrests, in which the officers found and seized numerous weapons and tools used in the robberies, 250,000 euro in cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other items.

The investigation began in 2013, when the Guardia Civil investigators noted similarities in robberies which had taken place across Alicante, the Vega Baja and Crevillente, as well as in Murcia. As the investigation continued, the officers initially identified ten individuals thought to be involved.

The method in which the robberies were conducted saw the gang act in the early hours of the morning, often in a previously stolen vehicle, and intimidated workers at the sites of the robberies before fleeing.

In total, the gang has been attributed to 26 robberies, and have been charged with additional crimes of injury, falsification of public documents, false arrest, illegal possession of weapons and belonging to a criminal organization.

The investigation was conducted by agents of the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil in Alicante and the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police and the Commissioner of the National Police of Orihuela.
