SCHOOLGIRLS KNOCKED DOWN IN ORIHUELA

Three schoolgirls aged 11 and 12 were knocked down by a car on their way to school in Orihuela on Wednesday, resulting in one of the girls being hospitalised in a serious condition.

The girls were on their way to the Miguel Hernández school on Avenida Teodomiro, popularly known as Los Andenes, when they crossed the road at a zebra crossing.

The driver of the car failed to stop and ran into the girls, two of them suffering minor injuries as a result of the impact against the vehicle and falling to the ground, while the third suffered trauma and serious injury, resulting in her urgent transfer to the Hospital of Alicante, in a serious condition.

The driver was breathalysed at the scene, the results proving negative, but it is believed that the driver told the police he had been careless.
