MOST WANTED ARRESTS IN VALENCIA

Two criminals featuring on the ‘most wanted’ list were arrested in Valencia last week. The first, said to be extremely dangerous, was wanted by the authorities in Ireland for murder, while the second, a 37 year old Estonian, was detained when police intervened in a streetside heated discussion which was threatening to turn violent.

The Estonian was one of two men ordered by police to produce their id. Checks showed that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant and accused of several offences of child sex abuse.

That arrest coincided with that of a paedophile, Badri Khvedelidze, 34, from Georgia, who had also escaped the course of justice. He was detained in the Ruzafa neighbourhoodof Valencia, and is believed to have committed a murder in 2005 in the Republic of Ireland since when he has been sought by authorities in the country

In the last 12 months the Policia National in Valencia have arrested 317 fugitives all wanted for serious crimes such as murder, paedophilia, rape, fraud and drug-trafficking. Of those, 270 were foreigners – mainly British, Romanian, Italian and French.

The Costa Blanca has long been one of the key destinations for criminals fleeing their countries of origin, due to the large expatriate communities where they could go largely unnoticed.

Crimestoppers’ and the Home Office’s ‘Operation Capture’ campaign, where members of the public living in Spain are asked to help the police find British fugitives, has proven highly successful with almost every criminal named and photographed on their regular issue of publicity posters now in the hands of the UK justice system or behind bars.

Recently, National Police in Spain called for society to help them find 10 of the most-wanted criminals thought to be hiding out in the country, five of whom were foreign and one – a female of Colombian nationality.

They include British national Kevin Thomas Parle, a Spanish national of Moroccan origin Omar Tebar Tomas, and German citizen Dietmar Linke, all of whom are said to be very dangerous.

Two have committed a murder and a third let a bomb off. All of them are said to be in Spain and quite likely in the Alicante area.
