ORIHUELA PP HEAD FERRANDO TO BE CHARGED IN CORRUPTION CASE

Ferrando, Lorente and Bob Houliston

The current head of the Partido Popular in Orihuela, Pepa Ferrando, is to be charged with offences relating to alleged irregularities in the procurement of promotional material for the FITUR international tourism festival between 2008 and 2011, during her period as the councillor for tourism during the last administration of Orihuela.

Although widely considered as nothing more than a front for Mónica Lorente, who faces corruption charges herself, Ferrando took over the role in Orihuela after Lorente had to stand aside to enable a member of the group who wasn´t facing corruption charges to lead the PP into the failed censure motion to overthrow the government, after the regional PP´s vow to clamp down on corruption within the party.

Ferrando is the latest addition to the growing list of PP members of Orihuela facing corruption charges, and even this week, the mayor, Monseratte Guillen, called for action from the regional president, as even before this case has now come to light, five members of the Orihuela PP group are “accused and convicted of very serious crimes”.

In line with the regional PP´s own rules, Ferrando would no longer be eligible as a candidate for mayor.
