The proposed new insignia

The Spanish government is set revise the uniforms of the National Police force, updating the identifying rank insignia worn on the epaulettes of officers.

The draft proposals created by technicians working on the project sees the uniform distinctions taking on similar characteristics of the Spanish military, with the Royal Crown, laurels and stripes replacing rectangles, leaves and crests that are currently worn.

According to the text in the draft, the main objective of the reform is to “unify in a single text the provisions in force concerning uniformity and that the police can get to know the different types of uniforms, modalities and its use”, and to end alleged confusion within the police regarding their own uniforms and currencies.

The National Police is currently composed of more than 68,000 agents and the cost is anticipated at being just 44 euro per officer; however the total for the project then comes to 2,992,000 euro, although there could be some savings when the job is put to public tender.
