ORIHUELA IS BEST FOR BRITISH

According to the latest data released by the Institute of National Statistics, Orihuela is the leading location of British expats to reside, followed by Mijas and then Torrevieja.

The statistics reveal that Orihuela now has 18,834 British residents, leading the way in the whole of the country. In second place is Mijas, in Málaga, with 15,645 Brits, and in third place is Torrevieja, with 13,172 British residents. Perhaps a surprise given the proximity to Torrevieja and Orihuela, in fourth place in the national chart is Rojales, with 9,083, followed by Javea with 8,858 Brits.

The British wave of immigrants then spreads through Murcia, Tenerife and Málaga, before the chart brings us back to San Fulgencio, sitting in ninth place, with 6,364 British residents registered.

The statistics are all based on the figures of registered residents of course, and with many people choosing to try to avoid becoming permanent, the real figure is expected to be much higher, but considering the relatively short life of the Orihuela Costa, the importance of the foreign market has proven to be obvious. Although property prices were much higher in the 80´s, the balance of prices has eased considerably with the spread of developments throughout the coastal zone.
