PROTESTS AT THE PLENARY MEETING

Becoming an almost daily stage of protests, the plaza outside the town hall of Torrevieja saw a group of local police officers and waste disposal and street cleaning workers on Friday, wanting to make their displeasure known to the attendees of the monthly town hall plenary meeting.

Around 100 people came together, carrying signs of protest, before entering the town hall to take their place in the public gallery. However, given the number of people wanting to take an interest in the proceedings this month, there was a delay before the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, entered the session, as everybody had to be seated first. One group of protestors agreed to leave the session before it began in order to ease the pressure on the government team.

Both the police and waste workers have pending cases of complaint about working conditions and contracts with the town hall, both of which the unions say are not being resolved.
