A body was found on La Vila beach, centro, on Monday afternoon adjacent to the old part of the town. It was found to be in an advanced state of decomposition, having been in the water for some time.

Despite this the Guardia Civil are hoping that they will be able to identify the body within the next day or two. They are thought to believe that it could be that of an 80 year old woman who was listed as missing in Benidorm.

The body was found in the same location as a paterna boat which was washed up onto the shore three weeks ago containing two men of north African descent. They were caught on the beach as they attempted to enter the country illegally and immediately arrested.

This is the second dead body that has been washed up on the southern costa blanca in recent days. The first was wrapped and taped up in a plastic back just over a week ago and found in La Zenia. It was subsequently identified as 25 year old Francis Brennan from Liverpool who had been living in Javea whilst on the run from the British authorities
