AGRICULTURAL BURNING BANNED FROM THIS WEEK

The Ministry of the Interior has announced a stricter and extended period for the restrictions on agricultural burning, in order to better protect against the risk of forest fires.

Agricultural fires will now be banned from the 15th of May until the 30th of September, rather than beginning in July as the law dictates.

During this period the burning of crops or agricultural or forestry residues, reeds and bushes, forestry and other fire related activities which are normal to running of farms and farmlands, and will have a 500 metre perimeter restricted area around the zones.

Statistically, around 80% of all forest fires each year in Valencia are as a direct result of humans, either deliberately or through negligence. By restricting the risk of these activities, it is hoped that it will also reduce the risk of potentially devastating and deadly fires taking hold.
