CORVERA CABLE THIEVES CAUGHT

Officers from the Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia have arrested two people for their alleged involvement in stealing cables from the unopened and unfinished regional airport at Corvera.

The two detainees, of Spanish nationality, have been the subject of an investigation after it was discovered earlier this year that cable was going missing from lighting and beacons near the access roads at the airport facility. In total, some 16,000 metres of cable has gone missing, with a value of 100,000 euro.

The investigation led officers to a scrap and waste company in the Campo de Cartagena, where the officers were then able to identify the two suspects in the case following the finding of cables that matched the style taken from the airport.

The two suspects, residents of Fuente Alamo, were then apprehended on suspicion of being responsible for the theft.
