The Guardamar Castle is just one of the many local buildings declared to be of Cultural Interest

The Ministry of Culture has awarded a grant of € 18,000 to undertake improvement and maintenance works in Guardamar Castle.

The project involves the consolidation of the outer wall, clearing up of the internal areas, restoration of the solid flooring and replacement of the front door to the grounds.

Councillor for Heritage, Jesus Huertas, said that this shows more evidence that the government team is continuing its policy of maintaining the region’s important archaeological sites. “We want to provide the best image of our attractions going into this summer season is when there will be far more visitors to our town."

The Guardamar Castle is just one of the many local buildings declared to be of Cultural Interest, first erected in the late thirteenth century by Alfonso X the Wise and continuing to be a stronghold of the town until its destruction by earthquakes in 1829.
