Spain will play host to a conference in September, the first of its kind to take place in Europe, which will focus on one of the fastest growing sectors of the travel industry and how businesses can capitalise on obtaining their share of that growth.
In 2013, the halal tourism sector was valued at a staggering 140 billion dollars, representing some 13% of the entire global travel expense. In 2014, that figure is expected to grow to 192 billion dollars, so many are now seeing this niche market as an obvious choice when other sectors have seen reduced income capacity.
The aim of the conference taking place in Andalucía is to bring together the global travel industry to discuss what the leaders in the field of travel can do to further increase the growth, and subsequent wealth, from the Muslim community.
Event organiser Tasneem Mahmood, has said that the conference further aims to bring those currently active in halal tourism together with those trying to break into this sector, looking at areas where tourism has already seen benefits, as well as spreading into those yet to be targeted.
With Russian tourism having been seen by many as the future of the industry in Spain, the recent figures have shown that visitors from Russia are declining, despite a wave of tours and focus trips given to travel agents from Russia.
Mahmood continued, “Every country and business needs to look at Halal tourism because it is growing so rapidly and the Muslim consumer is increasing spend on leisure holidays. It provides a great opportunity for every part of the travel sector”, concluding, “This is a groundbreaking event for halal tourism which is directly reacting to current market trends and addressing the needs of the industry. It is the first time such a global event is being staged looking at halal tourism in detail”.
