ORIHUELA BEACHES UNDER ASSESSMENT

The beaches of the Orihuela Costa have come under the microscope again this week, as the annual audit assessing the quality requirements got under way.

Last year the audits took place concurrently, but this year the different standard appraisers are arriving at different times, the first being the official assessors for the ISO certificates as well as the “Q” for quality.

Five of the beaches on the Orihuela Costa have the Q flag standard, they are Punta Prima, Estaca, Cala Capitán, La Glea and Mil Palmeras, whereas eleven beaches have the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates.

Martina Scheurer from the Los Verdes green party of Orihuela, the councillor of Orihuela Costa, told The Leader that she is “glad to communicate that until now there has been not even one non conformity issue and that the results are very good”.

The certificate of "Q" for quality is issued by the ICTE (Instituto nacional de Calidad Turistica en España) and the requirements are very severe. Even though the Chiringuitos do not officially form part of it, the auditor paid particular attention to them as well and has confirmed that everything matches the official requirements.

The auditors will carry on with their work next week, whilst the inspections for the Blue Flags will take place in the second half of July.
