Regional politician González Pons argued that the granting of surveys would be very harmful

The Orihuela and Torrevieja Green Party’s joined forces last weekend as they made a stand, first at la Playa del Cura de Torrevieja and then at La Zenia beach on the Orihuela Costa, against oil exploration that the government has authorized the off the Canary Islands.

They say that they now fear that exploration could soon be approved in the Gulf of Valencia

This was the very last action carried out by Orihuela mayor Monserrate Guillen prior to suffering his heart attack on Sunday morning.

Also attending the demo was Torrevieja Councillor José Manuel Dolon who said that evedn the introduction of surveys off the regional coast would result in "a serious threat to coastal tourism which at this time of the year contributes up to 80% of the economy and so we ask the support of the citizens."

The ‘Greens’ say that in the coming weeks they will be travelling up and down the Valencian coastline promoting sustainable energy, because the proposed surveys will only bring harm to our region.

Regional politician González Pons argued that the granting of surveys would be very harmful." He also denounced "the silence of regional President Fabra who should be looking after the interests of his own people rather than following the government positions taken on the Balearic and Canary Islands."
