July has been a particularly good month for Torrevieja’s Policia Local, that is according to a statement made last week in the town hall by Agustina Esteve, the Councillor for Police and Traffic, and Vicente Gutierrez, the Commander of the Policia Local.
The main challenge has been the security and management of a large influx of tourists and visitors to the city but in addition the police have organized successful Driver Education Courses for Schools and safety activities at the Children’s Traffic Park. They have also clamped down on the illegal sale of counterfeit goods in the town forcing the traders to move elsewhere.
Commander Gutierrez also said that a multitude of road markings have been repainted and there has been wholesale replacement of damaged road signs along the coast, from la playa de los Náufragos a la de La Mata.
There has been the introduction of parking areas for disabled, improved access to certain developments and new speed bumps installed in Lago jardín and Molino Blanco. In total there were 190 improvement actions successfully carried out.
Traffic controls have been introduced in the town every evening from 9.30 to 11.30 pm where it is now regulated at the entrance to the port by two or three agents. This has resulted in a better flow of people to the fairground, to the tourist market and to the sea front.
July also saw the introduction of a police boat for monitoring beaches, a total of 374 actions having been taken, including assistance to rescue boats and pleasure boats as well as the monitoring and control of hobby fishermen.
There have been 9 follow-ups to incidents of domestic violence, some of them in neighboring villages and towns, and there have also been numerous actions regarding the control of bars, night clubs and terraces, to ensure compliance with regulated closing times.
All in all, the pair agreed, it has been a most satisfactory month for Torrevieja’s Policia Local.
