The winners with their cheques

Kike Gasu was the winner of El Pilar de Estrellas held over 3 nights last week in Pilar de la Horadada and in so doing picked up a cheque for 1000 euro from the mayor Fidel Ros. Callum Smith and Mary Lozano came in second and third, while in the junior category the winners were Antonio Tomás, the duo of Felipe y María, and Ángela Caravaca.

The second edition of the talent contest organized by the Municipality attracted almost fifty artists amongst which were dancers, singers and stand-up comedians travelling into the town from as far afield as Valencia, Madrid, Jaen and the neighboring region of Murcia.

The councillor of Tourism, Eva Martinez said "The City Council support initiatives like this talent show which offers artists and performers to demonstrate their abilities in front of a sellout audience.”

During the three evenings there were also culinary demonstrations entitled "A Pilar of skewers and cocktails" so that attendees could enjoy tastings from participating contributors situated next to the main marquee.

The professional jury consisted of Rocío Aceña, Spain’s Urban Dance Champion; Miguel Guerrrero, director of the José Hódar Mass Choir; Carmen Martinez, director of the International Institute of Photography and Fashion; José Francisco Sánchez, from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (LRSM), the director of the Torrrevieja Symphony Orchestra and Rafael Alvero, a music producer, responsible for numerous film scores.

The mayor, José Fidel Ros, and the Councillor for Tourism, Eva Martinez, were responsible for presenting the checks to the winners:

In the Youth category Torrevejense Antonio Tomás took the first prize of 600 €; the Pilareños duet of Felipe and María came second receiving 300 € and Angela Caravaca from Murcia won the third prize, and a cheque for € 200.

In the adult category, third place € 250 went to María Lozano; second place was won by singer Callum Smith, who received a cheque for € 500, while the first place and the prize of 1000 € was taken by Kike Gasu, who won over the judges with his performance of Beatbox.
