The Mayor of Callosa de Segura, Javier Pérez (PP), has defended criticism by the socialist opposition, of the contract that he has signed to privatise the maintenance of public lighting in the town

The contract has been put in place for a period of 15 years at a cost of 7.5 million euros, half a million per year which will provide an overall saving of approximately 700,000 euros. This is because there will no longer be a need for the authority to purchase and maintain the equipment that is usually necessary to provide the maintenance support, lifting equipment and cranes.

In his first appearance in front of the press following the summer break the mayor also said that improvement works are about to get underway in calles Pedro Aragonés, Filarmónica, Luis Galiana and Plaza San Adrián, at a cost of 240.000 euros; maintenence of some rural roads costing 60.000 euros; renewal of sewerage in el Paseo de la Estación and la Rambla Baja, for 140.000 euros; as well as energy efficiency measures in the sports centre costing 72.750 euros

On the expansion of the health center the mayor explained that just this week additional services will allow new specialties such as minor surgery.

Finally, he said that the council has completed the redevelopment of the roads and streets of Callosilla and las calles Reyes Católicos and Felipe II, and the remodeling of the electrical system in the La Paz and San Roque colleges.
