CORONATION Street star Deidre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) is to take a break from the cobbled streets of Manchester at her Villa in Mojocar.

Oldham born Kirkbride, 60, has a Casa in Mojácar in the south east of Almería in Andalucia, southern Spain. Kirkbride, married to Ken Barlow (Bill Roache) in the TV soap, has requested extended leave until 2015, that was given by Granada chiefs.

Croaky-voiced Kirkbride has played the part of cigarette smoking Deirdre Barlow spanning over four decades. In 2009 Kirkbride fled her villa in Mojocar after bush fires hit the area. She was among hundreds of people evacuated after raging fires spread.

TV bosses have had a ‘shake-up’ in the show – with leading stars leaving the cast – and Kirkbride has revealed that her schedule left her mentally exhausted. Kirkbride, who lives in Manchester, and has complained of the long hours in the TV studios, said: “At times, it is worse than being delayed at Alicante airport." Kirkbride is set to take her extended break in Spain, with a flight, via Manchester Airport to Alicante-Elche airport

The much awaited La Siesta park in Torrevieja opened on Saturday, with many people attending the event to check out some of the leisure and pleasure facilities now available in this popular area of Torrevieja. The La Siesta park features all kinds of sports pitches, for football, basketball, hockey, and more, as well as the largest paved pump track in the world, according to the town hall. It's been a long time coming, but the La Siesta Skate Park is due to open this week with the inauguration set for Saturday 16 March at 11:00 a.m. The park contains many different facilities for different sports modalities, and there's seating around the entire area.
