LEVANTE UD ‘B’ – 0 CD TORREVIEJA – 1

Another long away trip last Saturday, saw Torry visit the city of Valencia’s other team. Although Valencia CF are world famous, Levante UD can also boast a La Liga side, but it was their B team that hosted Galiana’s men in this latest division 3 encounter.

Desperately wanting to make amends for the recent home defeat to local rivals Orihuela, Galiana made some brave team changes. Out went Carrasco and Cristian, to be replaced by fit again Steve and Borja.

Levante started the brighter, and would have scored after only 5 mins, had it not been for a basic schoolboy miss. Torry started to get their act together, when following 3 corners in quick succession, a well worked move, involving Burguillos, Ruben then Steve, was fired just over by the latter. Alexis cleared off the line, as Levante once again threatened, but it was the visitors who went in front a minute before the interval. Superb control by Rafa Gomez, culminated in his assist to Cesar (who incidentally is sponsored in the match day programme by yours truly – hail Cesar!) being fired into the top corner of the net.

The 2nd half resembled that of the siege of the Alamo, for Levante took the game by the scruff of the neck. Midway through, Vicente came to the rescue, executing a last ditch tackle which prevented a certain goal. So many efforts by the home side were just off target, and it looked only a matter of time before they would equalize.

Alexis, Martin and Cesar were all booked, as it became a case of backs to the wall lads, with no prisoners being taken. Oscar made a breath taking save low down to his right, leaving Torry holding on for 3 points, in a game in which both keeper Oscar, and full back Vicente were outstanding.

Next Sunday 12 October, Torry host Ontinyent at Vicente Garcia Stadium. Ko is scheduled for 6pm, but please check Torry websites for any changes (you just never know!!).
