Over two containers of solid waste were collected last Sunday by more than 150 volunteers and divers who had gathered at Cala Ferris to clean up the shoreline and the seabed in one of the most ecological locations in the area.

Prior to starting work representatives from the Torrevieja Department of Tourism gave a presentation on environmental care and recycling to all the children that had gathered, after which divers demonstrated basic diving techniques before explaining the days tasks.

The children were then allocated into 4 groups of 12 and given gloves, bags and special hazardous waste markers before each being allocated to a supervisor.

After the exercise, the Department of Tourism presented each child with a goodie bag of supplies including a snack, a bottle of water and a sticker with recycling instructions.

One of the discovery’s found in the water was a bottle with a message in English, which spoke of peace and love for all.

Throughout the morning, the City Biologist, Juan Antonio Pujol, toured and spoke to each of the groups explaining to them just how important their task was.
