GUARDIA CIVIL OFFICERS AIRLIFTED FROM SHIP

Three maritime officers of the Guardia Civil were airlifted off their boat this week, after suffering a number of injuries whilst on patrol near Ceuta.

A Navy SH-3D helicopter from the fifth squadron carried out the rescue of the three crew members from the “Rio Gallo” patrol boat, transporting the officers to the hospital in Puerto de Santa María.

The helicopter was called upon by the Salvamento Maritimo and left the Rota naval base at 22:25 on Tuesday evening. According to a Navy official, two of the officers had suffered cuts to their arms; the third had a cut to the head.

A Salvamento Maritomo ship also took part in the operation, along with the Navy ships “Cazadora” and “Tagomago” who were kept close by, on account of adverse conditions in complete darkness, and in 35 knot winds.
