 Spanish airport operator AENA has received 167 offers from 12 companies or groups bidding to handle the operation of 19 airports in their network.

Spanish airport operator AENA has received 167 offers from 12 companies or groups bidding to handle the operation of 19 airports in their network.

It was in July of this year that the service was put to tender for the second phase of the competition for ground handling services, with a total of 15 licenses up for grabs for three contractors to provide the services at the major airports of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche and Palma de Mallorca.

In addition, there are 28 licences available for two operators at Asturias, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Girona-Costa Brava, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Menorca, Reus, Santiago, Sevilla, Tenerife Norte, Tenerife Sur and Valencia.

Finally, a single operator license is available at the smaller airports of La Gomera and El Hierro.

Operators included in the first bid for Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas include Acciona, Iberia, Clece/Talher, Globalia Handling/Iberhandling, Lesma/Ryanair, Menzies Aviation Spain, Swissport Handling, WFS Servicios Aeroportuarios and Aviapartner SAS.
