House sales rose by 8.6% in the third quarter of the year

According to data compiled by the General Council of Notaries, House sales rose by 8.6% in the third quarter of the year compared with the same period last year, while, in the same period, house prices fell by an average of 4%.

Thus, between January and September 2014, the average quarterly figure of 84,166 sales was higher than in the same period last year, when it averaged 70,298 transactions.

However the sales of new homes shrank by 32.8% in September compared to the same month last year, while re sales showed a growth of 25.4% .

Other figures show that the average price per square foot for houses purchased in September was 1,187 euros, reflecting a decline of 2.9%, whilst in the case of apartments the decline amounted to 1.1%.

In their report the General Council of Notaries says that these figures demonstrate that the third quarter has seen a recovery in terms of the annual numbers of house sales, but not their prices, which have continued to fall in most areas of the Valencian community.
