A cargo ship set sail from Valencia this week, with her chilled cargo destined to be delivered to Hong Kong. However, the unusual nature of the cargo is what has brought it to the headlines.
The ship is carrying 4,000 deer penises, chilled to minus twenty degrees, in boxes containing 20 pairs of genitals.
Although reindeer may well be in a lot of people´s minds at this time of year, in the thoughts of those set to consume the delicacy will be the believed promise that it will increase one´s libido and make the recipient more masculine.
At 150 euro per portion they are not a cheap dietary supplement, Paco Polin, one of the largest exporters of deer penises in Spain, explains how the 30 centimetre long appendage would normally have been discarded, but with the 90,000 to 100,000 boost to his company revenue, it´s no wonder how Paco supports Pekinese Chef Xiao Shan, who says that “Eating penis is rich and can also give more force to be a man”, and he should know, having learnt to cook the organ from the age of 13.
