GUARDIA CIVIL TAKES DELIVERY OF ALMOST 200 NEW VEHICLES

The equipment stores of the Guardia Civil have taken delivery of 195 new vehicles, 12,000 computers and a variety of long distance and photography kits.

The Director General of the Guardia Civil, Arsenio Fernández Mesa, explained in a press conference that of the 195 new vehicles, 111 are capable of driving over all terrains, and will be used for standard security patrols and by the research units, and 67 new standard cars that will also be used for patrol purposes, another 17 vehicles are for the transport of personnel and for prison duties.

Of the full allocation, 61 of the vehicles are designated for use on border patrols, as part of and agreed cost sharing deal with the European Union.

The cost of these vehicles has been 5,446,746.91, whereas the 2015 budget is 6.5 million euro, to which 2.5 million will be added from European funds, allowing a total acquisition of 400 new vehicles.

In addition to their fleet additions, the stores have also taken delivery of 12,000 computers which will be distributed among the different territorial units and specialties of the corps, from the 7.3 million euro budget. At a cost of 174,296.87 euro, the research units will also take delivery of their share of long-range vision and photography equipment.
