Charlie l'Anson

Damian Suarez’s 30-yard thunderbolt lit up the Martinez Valero stadium as Elche cruised to a 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano to climb off the bottom of the Primera Division.

With the hosts desperately seeking to end a two-match losing run, Suarez unleashed a stunning drive from distance to open the scoring in the first half, before Garry Rodrigues capped off the win with a fine second goal late on. The win lifted the Illicitanos off the bottom of the table.

Next up is 8th placed Eibar who Elche meet at the tiny Campo de Ipurua on Monday evening (16 Feb).

Meanwhile Charlie I’Anson, Elche’s 21 year old English defender, has moved to Stan Collymore’s old club, Segunda B side Real Oviedo, after ending his loan with Alcorcón.

Having made only a handful of appearances since his move at the start of the current season the 21-year-old opted out of his loan spell and chosen to join a team where he feels he will get regular playing time.

Charlie agreed to join the Asturian side for the remaining months of the season, where he will be reunited with former Elche players David Generelo, Franck Omgba and Miguel Linares.

Following his loan spell, Charlie will then return to Elche as he enters the final year of his contract with the club he’s been at since 2012, whom he joined from Grimsby Town.
