The Regional Minister for Social Welfare, Asunción Sánchez Zaplana, announced last week that the Generalitat Valenciana has allocated a total of 257,000 euros to equip the Disabled Care Centre in Torrevieja.

She made the announcement during a visited to the Centre with the Torrevieja mayor Eduardo Dolon.

At a press conference in the Town Hall, Zaplana said that tenders are now being sought for the procurement of the equipment necessary to operate the unit, which is designed as a residential centre for people with disabilities and a day support meeting place.

The Regional Minister said she hoped the building would be fully operational and in use later in the year.

The mayor said that he is looking forward to the centre opening as soon as possible and it would quickly become an important resource in the town for such local associations as AFA, ALPE, AMFA, ADIEM and APANEE. It will provide much needed improvements to the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families.

This centre for Torrevieja’s disabled (mentally and physically) is located on Avenida Delfina Viudes next to Public School No. 10 Habanera, on a municipal plot of 11,152 square meters. It is divided into 7,630 square meters of garden and a building plot of 3,522 square meters with 28 double and 32 single rooms.

With this new building Torrevieja will have a public infrastructure of hospital standard and will be able to accommodate a total of 88 people in residence.
