The driver of a van had a lucky escape on Wednesday when the van he was driving crashed into a building at the junction of calle La Loma and calle Fuensanta in Torrevieja.
The local police and Guardia Civil attended the scene and report that the driver, described as being of British nationality and in his 60´s, was trapped inside the vehicle. The fire brigade were called but were not required as witnesses assisted in the rescue operation before their arrival.
Witness statements say that the vehicle had been driving along calle La Loma, “at high speed”, when it tried to pass another vehicle with which it then collided and rebounded towards the corner building where the vehicle crashed and stopped, a few metres away from nearby pedestrians.
The driver was taken to Torrevieja hospital having suffered a severe contusion to the front of his head.
