ALICANTE ARREST IN EU IVA FRAUD

The operation has involved twelve countries, including nine member states of the EU

The Civil Guard has dismantled an organization responsible for IVA fraud of over 150 million euros of in several European Union (EU) countries resulting in five detainees in Spain including one in Alicante.

Operation Vertigo was developed in coordination with the German and Dutch police authorities and with the support of Eurojust and Europol, and according to the Guardia Civil has resulted on raids in five homes in Alicante, Malaga and Mallorca.

The operation has involved twelve countries, including nine member states of the EU and currently accounts for nine detainees in total.

Apart from Spain, those that contributed in the investigation included the Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg and Ukraine.

Of the totals, fraud against the German Government has amounted to one hundred million euros, while the Netherlands Government has been defrauded by at least thirty million, the Czech Republic and Poland more than ten million each.

The network used alternative banking platforms in which people or companies create money managers by using virtual accounts to manage other people’s money so you can transfer funds from criminal activity and by money laundering.
