A POINT FOR TORRY BUT NOT ENOUGH

SC REQUENA 0 CD TORREVIEJA 0

Under the guidance of new manager Pedreno, Torry visited lowly Requena on Sunday, still buzzing from that ground breaking 6 goal massacre of CD Acero the week before.

And now, with a place in the play offs once again very much in everybody’s thoughts, sitting as they do just 6 pts behind 4th placed Villarreal, a feel good factor was once again very evident throughout the whole squad.

It was back in early November that a home score draw with Requena started the rot….it was the beginning of a poor run of form for Torry, one which was to continue until the end of the year, but this new look side appear to have broken loose from the shackles that seemed responsible for the inconsistent form they have suffered for large parts of the current campaign.

Admittedly one game doesn’t make a season but what we saw last Sunday was enough to provide the encouragement to the supporters and the confidence to the playing squad going into the game against lowly Requena.

And Torry got off to an encouraging start, there was a lot more assurance and expression from the players who worked tirelessly to build on the form shown during Pedreno’s short term in office.

With early opportunities falling to Cesar and Carrasco things looked bright during the early part of the game. But unfortunately, despite the pressure, the visitors had nothing to show, other than hard work and determination, going into the interval.

The best that Requena could muster were strong appeals for a penalty when the referee brushed aside their protestations after Alexis had meted out a heavy challenge on striker Soriano.

For the most part, however, the running was made by Torry, a fierce drive from Burguillos on the half hour, Cesar unlucky to be adjudged offside with only keeper Juarez to beat, but at half time, the signs were still encouraging as the players trooped off with 45 still to come.

Unfortunately though our hopes weren’t replicated in the Torry performance with only the agility of Oscar keeping them in the game, indeed it was one excellent save from top scorer Ubach which certainly rescued a point at the death.

There were opportunities, however, and that is perhaps the major difference, but the visitors were let down by poor finishing in a game from which they expected to pick up all 3 pts.

Two home games to look forward to next week, both of which are at the Vicente Garcia, the first on Wednesday evening against mid table CF Cullera, kicking off at 8pm and then on Sunday against promotion chasing UD Beniganim, a game that gets underway at 5pm with nothing less than 6 points necessary to keep the Torry season alive.
