Orihuela´s councillor for urbanism, Antonio Zapata, has approved the final stage for work to be carried out on changing the formation at La Zenia roundabout, creating a network of one-way streets on the current road system, so as to hopefully ease congestion caused by traffic visiting the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre.
There will be a pavement area created on part of the roundabout, some car parking places will be prepared and access and egress will be restricted to one way on two of the minor roads which connect to the roundabout.
The plans had been submitted and approved by the Alicante roads department before December, but money for the work had not been released. With this final approval now in place, the work should commence shortly, and is hoped to be completed before the summer, now that the urbanism department has agreed to foot the bill.
At the same time, finances have also now been approved to repair the steps to the beach at Aquamarina. This work should also have been completed last year but the same financial restrictions prevented the work from being started until now. That work should start immediately.
Finally, work will also start this week on creating the giant chess board on one of the main park areas of the Orihuela Costa.
