The outlet will open in late May

The American coffee chain Starbucks are finally to have a presence in Alicante, as they open their first public outlet in the city, albeit inside the El Corte Ingles Federico Soto store in late May.

The bar will move into the area currently accommodation the travel agency, and will occupy a space of approximately 200 square meters and as well as many popular varieties of coffee, will also accommodate a children’s playroom.

Currently the only Starbucks outlet in the region is situated inside new terminal at Alicante-Elche airport but if you wish to taste their coffee you will need to be in possession of a boarding pass.

The other closest outlets are all in Valencia, in Manises airport and a number scattered around the city’s shopping centres.

The opening of Starbucks in El Corte Inglés de Alicante is the result of an overall agreement between the two companies, and subject to it’s popularity, it could well see space being set aside for the brand in a number of other El Corte Ingles stores nationwide. So, despite many feeling that it is long overdue, one of the most famous cafes in the world is finally arriving in the city of Alicante.

Having consolidated its position in Madrid and Barcelona the Starbucks expansion strategy has shifted to the peripheral markets, one of the strongest of which is said to be El Corte Ingles.

New President Dimas Gimeno says that his stores remain committed to expanding their leisure and catering operations and the addition of Starbuck’s outlets is an extremely important part of their diversification.
