The Spanish tax office has declared that transactions using the virtual currency Bitcoin are exempt from IVA. The governmental body states that Bitcoin is closely linked to payment instruments, which allows the transfer of money and, as such, this kind of transactions will be exempt from IVA, under clause 135.1 of the exemption Directive.
