Spectacular action shot with Mat in front

The Supermoto racing brothers from Murcia have had a busy start to their 2015 race season. It all kicked off in March at the first round of the Spanish championship at Albaida in Valencia.

Last year’s season ended in a career threatening injury for Anthony Ford-Dunn when he crashed and badly broke his arm. After an operation to pin and plate the break, and the winter spent rehabilitating, Anthony decided to race in the SM road class for 2015 to allow his arm to strengthen properly before re-entering the SM open class in 2016, where the off road and jump sections are included.

With the decision made to contest the road racing Supermoto class, Anthony showed that he had lost none of his skills or determination to win, and immediately set pole position, followed by two wins in both his races. He didn’t stop there, as he has also competed in the Catalan SM road championship and after 2 rounds he has 3 wins and a 2nd place to his name and a commanding championship lead.

Older Brother Mat Ford-Dunn also walked away from last year’s race in Albaida with a broken collar bone, just an hour after Anthony had broken his arm. It was a bad day for the Supermotoland team, but he still had a shot at the SM master 35 championship title for 2014 and used the 6 weeks between races to heal before coming back at the final round of the championship in Alcarras, Catalunya, to fight for the championship title.

The pressure was on, as Mat had not even sat on the bike in the 6 weeks since his injury but in a determined effort he set pole position and then a dominant double race victory to make him the SM Master 35 champion of Spain for the second year running.

This year has seen Mat step up to the premier SM Open class and he has wasted no time in finding the extra speed needed to be competitive. With a solid start at Albaida Mat scored 5-5-5 in his three races to give him 5th overall on the day and just one point short of 4th position.

Mat was running as high as 3rd in one of his races but a couple of small crashes knocked him back. The Catalan championship has also seen Mat at his best with a surprising 3rd overall at the first round of the championship and after two rounds he now holds 5th position.

For 2015 the Supermotoland team that is sponsored by Murcia based International removals company ‘Advance Moves’ has a new member of the team, in the form of Mats 14 year old son Loris Ford-Dunn, Loris has been learning the ropes in the Youth classes and with limited time on his bike he has started to make good progress.

The Supermotoland team next race at Villena in Alicante on Sunday 3rd May for the second round of the Spanish Supermoto championship. The race action all starts at 10.00 hrs and finishes at 15.00 hrs so be sure to be there on time to see some fantastic racing.
