A new study conducted by the University of Alicante has concluded that the “high consumption” of alcohol amongst students is “alarming”.

The report on drug use among secondary school students reveals that 65.6% of adolescents have consumed alcohol at some time in their lives and 61.3% of them did in the last year. However, the most alarming statistic is that 44.3% of students surveyed acknowledged having drunk alcohol during the 30 days prior to completion of the questionnaire.

However, the study reveals that alcohol consumption by young people across Alicante is actually lower than the national average, where the consumption rate is 80% overall, with 74% having consumed alcohol within the 30 days prior to being questioned.
