Not a truck, bus or car. Carlos Bernabé, Cambiemos Orihuela coalition party candidate for mayor of Orihuela, premiered this past Friday evening, May 8, his official campaign tandem bicycle, which he shared with Miguel Ortuño, IES Espeñetas professor and member of the list of candidates.
The premier took place during the Bicycle Tour organized by Cambiemos Orihuela to defend the use of the bicycle as an excellent alternative to the automobile. Bernabé and a group of Cambiemos Orihuela candidates and community members toured Orihuela from the Plaza of Capuchinos to the Glorieta, passing through the Plazas of Monserrate, Santiago, San Sebastián, and the parks of Ocarasa and Severo Ochoa, where they took advantage of the opportunity to present the coalition Project and some of the candidates aspiring to gain the trust of the people at the polls on May 24.
“I am the only candidate with an official bicycle,” joked Bernabé, noting Cambiemos Orihuela’s proposal to make all of Orihuela more pedestrian and bicycle friendly as well as promote other cleaner transportation means.
In other events, on Saturday evening, May 9, Cambiemos Orihuela held an event for community members in the Plaza of Santiago to bring attention to the poor condition of the Palace of Rubalcava, demanding attention be paid to Oriolano heritage, past, present and future. Participants also enjoyed music performed by some members of the Conservatory of Orihuela as well as food, drink and magic.
