Vandals emptied refuse bins full of rubbish into the pool

The popular La Pedrera Bar in Bigastro was attacked by vandals overnight last Sunday causing nine thousand euros worth of damage.

Supervisor Manuel Andres, who has been managing the municipal complex since last summer, said that the damage was discovered when employees arrive at the venue on Monday morning to begin their day’s work. The matter was immediately reported to the Policia Locale in the town who have now handed it over to the Guardia Civil.

It seems as though the vandals had broken into the premises with the intent of raiding the bar but when they realized the building was alarmed, and after they found themselves unable to smash through the reinforced door, they turned their frustrations onto the pool area, damaging poolside furniture which they threw into the pool along with adjacent rubbish containers and their contents.

Manuel said that the pool would be closed all week while it was emptied, cleaned and refilled, with a view to reopening again at the weekend. He confirmed that he had applied for permission to install security cameras around the site some time ago.

Obviously this application would now be reviewed with a view to speeding the process up.
