Concerns after Dry and Hot May

The weather conditions recorded in May show that the month was not only dry and hot it broke records when temperatures reached 40.5 degrees in Orihuela, 40.2 degrees in Rojales and 37 degrees in Torrevieja on the 13th and 14th of May. During these days, the temperature was 15 degrees higher than what would be considered normal for the time of year, when the historical average is 19 degrees.

Rain was practically nonexistent during May, traditionally one of the wettest months of the year, with the month being classified as very dry in inland areas and extremely dry on the coast. The concern is that with little rain fall now the rest of the year is likely to remain dry, with droughts anticipated through the summer until the next rainy season in September.
