The Orihuela Costa of the Royal British Legion held their June meeting at the Olympia Restaurant in Mil Palmeras last Thursday evening following which a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to restaurant owner Elaina for the help and support she has provided to the organisation since its formation at the beginning of 2008.

The branch also held a spontaneous collection, initiated during AOB by member Ted Marsh, for the Gurkha Welfare Trust Earthquake Response Fund, created to provide emergency aid to the Gurkha and ex Ghurkha community affected by the earthquake last May.

A total of €255 was collected which has already been despatched to TRLB to be added to the initial £50,000 grant awarded by the charity last month.

Guest speaker for the evening was local broadcaster and journalist Keith Nicol who presented a short ‘What’s on, in and around the local area’ followed by an overview of cruising (by boat) in and around the Costa Blanca, which was remarkably well received.

Keith promised to return to the branch later in the year when he will treat the members to some previously unseen video footage of a dive onto the wreck of the Titanic.
