Two women, aged 62 and 70, have been seriously injured when they were knocked down by an ambulance whilst walking along the pavement in Alcorcón in the south west of Madrid.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the ambulance was en route to an emergency call and invaded the pavement striking the two pedestrians.

The victims were taken to hospital in an alternative ambulance and an investigation is being carried out, the most likely outcome being driver error, according to sources close to the investigation.
