The two men, aged 32 and 19 years, are currently being held in police custody awaiting trial

Two people have been arrested by the National Police in Cox for the acquisition and illegal sale of arms. During a raid on 9 June they were also found to be cultivating 482 marijuana plants which they were using to finance their illegal activities.

After further investigation they have now been charged by the Directorate General of Police with crimes of illegal possession of weapons, drug trafficking and a further crime involving the theft of electricity supply.

Searches on another three properties resulted in the seizure of two additional firearms, ammunition of different calibre and even more marijuana plants.

The operation began in January, when investigators became aware of a small group of people engaged in the acquisition and sale of illegal weapons which they were storing in several different homes.

The agents also discovered that the group activities were being financed by the sale of marijuana, that they were cultivating within their properties.

They were also performing illegal connections to the main electricity supply, the cost of which has been estimated at 50,000 euros.

The two men, aged 32 and 19 years, are currently being held in police custody awaiting trial.
