Serious Crashes on the N-332

It has been another bleak week on the N-332 main road with a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening in the Torrevieja area resulting in one person suffering serious injuries and another five being treated for minor cuts and bruises.

Two vehicles crashed head on near to the salt factory of Torrevieja with initial investigations suggesting that one of the vehicles invaded the opposite lane.

Meanwhile, just after midnight on Wednesday morning a five-vehicle crash occurred on the same road near to Alicante-Elche airport in the Santa Pola direction. Four people were taken to hospital following that crash, including a woman who suffered various broken bones and a 12-month old baby who was taken to hospital as a precaution but not showing any obvious signs of injury.

The roads of the Costa Blanca are still at their busiest at the moment with the major traffic operation signalling the end of summer taking place this coming weekend.

Operation Return sees the remaining bulk of inland tourists returning home after their summer holidays, resulting in busier roads as those vehicles head away from coastal and mountainous regions and back inland. The operation runs from Friday through to Sunday with Friday and Saturday evening, as well as Sunday all day, being the busiest anticipated times.

To make matters worse, the cycling tour of Spain also starts its stage in Torrevieja on Sunday, heading north along much of the N-332 route, which will result in road closures to allow the safe passage of the cyclists during one of the busiest times of the year.
