Catalan police have arrested a 23 year old driver who ploughed into a group of cyclists, killing two of them and injuring two others, before fleeing the scene on foot.
The incident occurred just after 08:00 on Sunday morning on the L-7041 road in the Segriá town of Soses, between Zaragoza and Barcelona.
The group of cyclists were hit head-on by the car that was travelling in the opposite direction. Javier M. B., who was 57, and Juan José R. M., aged 54, who were brothers in law, were killed by the impact. Two others were treated at the scene by attending medical staff, before being taken to hospital where one remained with a broken collarbone and in a serious condition.
The driver was located by the police and found to be a 23 year old resident of nearby Aitona. The driver, when subsequently tested, proved positive for alcohol and will be dealt with by the courts.
