During the latest campaign focussing on seatbelts and child restraints, the Guardia Civil caught more than 3,000 people in vehicles who were not wearing a seatbelt.

During the seven day campaign which ran between the 7th and the 13th of September, there were 2,830 adults and 206 children under 12 who were not wearing seatbelts.

Of the adult, 1,766 were drivers, the remaining 1,064 were passengers, divided as 649 in the front and 415 in the rear seats.

The campaign coincided with the return to school, and so the aim was to reduce the risk to children as well as adults by raising awareness of the need to wear this life-saving security device.

The use of seatbelts is mandatory for all occupants of vehicles, both in the front and the rear seats.
